A reunion turned tragic for one family when an oil & gas service company allowed its truck drivers to get drunk one summer afternoon. One driver drove his truck through a stop sign, slamming into a pick-up driven by a boy showing his cousins around town. The boy was killed, though not instantly.

The family turned to our lawyers for help. The company argued that the driver was not acting within the scope of his employment and that the pick-up was traveling too fast. Our investigation found friends of employees who had heard what really happened. This was not the first after hours gathering for the company. And, using accident reconstruction principles, we established the speed of both vehicles, and that the pick-up was under the speed limit. After we defeated the company’s motion for summary judgment, the company settled.
